Los Angeles Dodgers Franchise History - A Fan's Essentials

Fall 2022: To purchase a reasonably priced 8" x 24" plaqued mounted version of the Los Angeles Dodgers poster that's ready to hang on your wall, please visit Heritage Sports Stuff.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers – The Team Name
This National League franchise was established in 1890. The team has been known by a number of names as follows:
Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers (American Association) 1884 - 1888
Brooklyn Bridegrooms (American Association) 1889 - 1889
-----------------------
Brooklyn Bridegrooms 1890-1898
Brooklyn Superbas 1899-1910
Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers 1911-1912
Brooklyn Dodgers 1913
Brooklyn Robins 1914-1931
Brooklyn Dodgers 1932-1957
Los Angeles Dodgers 1958-Present
Note: The history of the Dodgers’ team nickname prior to 1914, and even through the 1920's, is the subject of some debate, largely because nicknames were somewhat unofficial in baseball’s early years. This great Wikipedia post explains how in the same newspaper article the team would be referred to by multiple names - the real takeaway is that team names really were nicknames, and nicknames vary depending on who is telling the story. The team's legal name was the Brooklyn Base Ball Club - with no nickname at all.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers – The Championship Record
Eight World Series Championships:
1955 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 3
1959 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 3
1963 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 0
1965 defeated Minnesota Twins 4 game to 2
1981 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 3
1988 defeated Oakland Athletics 4 games to 1
2020 defeated Tampa Bay Rays 4 games to 2
2024 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 1

Twenty-five National League Pennants:
1890, 1899, 1900, 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1988, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2024

5. Celebrate the Dodgers' uniform history by owning a piece of history:
If you love the Los Angeles Dodgers and the history of the Dodgers franchise, you might really love to own an original piece of artwork celebrating the team's historic uniforms as seen in the poster at the top of this blog - you can actually own one of those original pieces of art! There are only 16 pieces of original art available for sale, and when these 16 are sold, that's it, they're all sold out.

These original watercolor paintings would make a great gift (birthday gift, anniversary gift, retirement gift, Christmas gift, etc.) for someone you love or even a great gift for yourself (one of these framed pieces would look fantastic in your home or office). Each piece can be bought one of three ways:
1. As unframed art that you could have framed or mounted yourself (the one on the left)
2. Framed in our "Classic" framed version (the middle version)
3. Framed in our "Deluxe" framed version (the version on the right)

If you would like more information about this great artwork including the three ways you could purchase each piece, please visit our Los Angeles Dodgers YouTube video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcYy2f9uV_E or go directly to the artwork website www.heritagesportsart.com/Los-Angeles-Dodgers-c148/ where you can see and purchase the artwork.
