New York Islanders- Franchise, Team, Arena and Uniform History

Almost all of the actual original watercolor paintings used in this poster are available for sale – see Section 5 of this blog.

1. New York Islanders – The Franchise History
This franchise was established (by established we mean the year of the franchise’s first game) in 1972. The franchise has always been known as the New York Islanders.

2. New York Islanders – Championships/Great Accomplishments
Four Stanley Cup Championships:
1979-80 defeated Philadelphia Flyers 4 games to 2
1980-81 defeated Minnesota North Stars 4 games to 1
1981-82 defeated Vancouver Canucks 4 games to 0
1982-83 defeated Edmonton Oilers 4 games to 0

One Stanley Cup finals loss:
1983-84 los to Edmonton Oilers 4 games to 1

3. New York Islanders – Home Arena History
The Islanders have played at several home arenas:

1A. Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale NY
1972 - 2015 and 2018-2021 - Circa 1975

1B. Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale NY
1972 - 2015 and 2018-2021 - Circa 1983

1C. Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale NY
1972 - 2015 and 2018-2021 - Circa 2018

2. Barclay's Center   2015 - 2020

3. UBS Arena   2021 - present

Note: Here's what the folks at Wikipedia have to say about the Islanders and their home arena circa 2018-2021 - it's confusing!
In the 2018–19 season, the Islanders split their home games between Barclays Center and their former home, Nassau Coliseum. The use of both arenas will continue over the course of the following two seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21) until the completion of a new 18,000-seat arena at Belmont Park in Belmont NY. In the 2018-19 playoffs, Nassau Coliseum served as the site of the Islanders' home playoff games during the first round while the Barclays Center hosted home games for the remainder of the 2019 playoffs. On August 8, 2019, the Empire State Development Corporation board voted unanimously in favor of the Belmont Park Arena project which is expected to be ready in time for the 2021-22 NHL season.

5. Celebrate the Islanders' jersey history by owning a famous piece of jersey artwork:
If you love the New York Islanders and the history of the Islanders franchise, you might really love to own an original piece of artwork celebrating the team's historic jerseys as seen in the poster at the top of this blog - you can actually own one of those original pieces of art! There are only 14 pieces of original art available for sale, and when these 14 are sold, that's it, they're all sold out.

These original watercolor paintings would make a great gift (birthday gift, anniversary gift, retirement gift, Christmas gift, etc.) for someone you love or even a great gift for yourself (one of these framed pieces would look fantastic in your home or office). Each piece can be bought one of three ways:
1. As unframed art that you could have framed or mounted yourself (the one on the left)
2. Framed in our "Classic" framed version (the middle version)
3. Framed in our "Deluxe" framed version (the version on the right)
