Chicago Blackhawks - Franchise, Team, Arena and Uniform History

Almost all of the actual original watercolor paintings used in this poster are available for sale – see Section 5 of this blog.

Fall 2022: To purchase a reasonably priced 8" x 24" plaqued mounted version of the Blackhawks poster that's ready to hang on your wall, please visit Heritage Sports Stuff.

1. Chicago Blackhawks – The Franchise History
This franchise was established (by established we mean the year of the franchise’s first game) in 1926. The franchise has always been known as the Chicago Blackhawks (although it was generally spelled "Black Hawks" until the mid 1980's).

2. Chicago Blackhawks – Championships/Great Accomplishments
Six Stanley Cup Championships:
1933-34 defeated Detroit Red Wings 3 games to 1
1937-38 defeated Toronto Maple Leafs 3 games to 1
1960-61 defeated Detroit Red Wings 4 games to 2
2009-10 defeated Philadelphia Flyers 4 games to 2
2012-13 defeated Boston Bruins 4 games to 2
2014-15 defeated Tampa Bay Lightning 4 games to 2

Seven Other Stanley Cup Finals Appearances:
1930-31, 1943-44, 1961-62, 1964-65, 1970-71, 1972-73, 1991-92

3. Chicago Blackhawks – Home Arena History
The Blackhawks have played in the following home arenas:
1. Chicago Coliseum, Chicago
1926 – 1929, 1933

2. Chicago Stadium, Chicago
1929 – 1994

3. St. Louis Arena, St. Louis, MO
1954 - Six home games to help boost attendance

4. United Center, Chicago
1994 - Present

Note: In the 1928-29 season, the new Chicago Stadium was supposed to be ready in early 1929. But it wasn't ready on time and the Chicago Coliseum ownership did not want to accommodate the Blackhawks beyond their original agreement to use the Coliseum until late January 1929. So in the 1928-29 season, the Blackhawks played their 22 home games as follows:
A. Chicago Coliseum - 12 games from Nov 20 to Jan 20.
B. Peace Bridge Arena, Fort Erie Ontario - 5 home games (Feb 10, Feb 14, Feb 17, Mar 7, Mar 10)
C. Detroit Olympia - 4 home games (Feb 3, Feb 21, Feb 24, Feb 28)
D. Border Cities Arena, Windsor Ontario - 1 home game (Mar 2)

5. Celebrate the Blackhawks' jersey history by owning a famous piece of jersey artwork:
If you love the Chicago Blackhawks and the history of the Blackhawks franchise, you might really love to own an original piece of artwork celebrating the team's historic jerseys as seen in the poster at the top of this blog - you can actually own one of those original pieces of art! There are only 15 pieces of original art available for sale, and when these 15 are sold, that's it, they're all sold out.

These original watercolor paintings would make a great gift (birthday gift, anniversary gift, retirement gift, Christmas gift, etc.) for someone you love or even a great gift for yourself (one of these framed pieces would look fantastic in your home or office). Each piece can be bought one of three ways:
1. As unframed art that you could have framed or mounted yourself (the one on the left)
2. Framed in our "Classic" framed version (the middle version)
3. Framed in our "Deluxe" framed version (the version on the right)

If you would like more information about this great artwork including the three ways you could purchase each piece, please visit our Chicago Blackhawks YouTube video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfOf_QRKu4k or go directly to the artwork website www.heritagesportsart.com/Chicago-Blackhawks-c170/ where you can see and purchase the artwork.

And if someone you know loves the history of sports uniforms (but maybe another team) and loves great art, please let them know that we have over 1500 pieces of great original artwork for sale at www.heritagesportsart.com (all NFL teams, all MLB teams, all NHL teams, all CFL teams, select NCAA football teams) or check out each team's video at the Heritage Sports Art YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/ssillcox .

6. The original pen and ink drawings of the arenas shown above are also for sale.
Please note that the actual original, highly detailed, hand-drawn pen and ink sketches used for the 3 arena images shown above are available for sale as a complete collection to one Blackhawks fan. If you are interested in being the one and only owner of this complete and original collection of Chicago Blackhawks arena images, please contact me by email ssillcox@rogers.com and I can explain how they can all be framed in one beautiful piece.
