This National League franchise was established in 1887. 

The team has been known by only two names: 

Pittsburgh Alleghenys 1887-1890 

Pittsburgh Pirates 1891-Present

Five World Series Championships: 

1909 defeated Detroit Tigers 4 games to 3 

1925 defeated Washington Nationals 4 games to 3 

1960 defeated NY Yankees 4 games to 3 

1971 defeated Baltimore Orioles 4 games to 3 

1979 defeated Baltimore Orioles 4 games to 3 

Nine National League Pennants: 

1901 90 wins - 49 losses 

1902 103 wins - 36 losses
